Apostolos - a liturgical book containing the liturgical Epistles for use during the year; more specifically, it can refer to the Epistle read during the Liturgy. As a liturgical book it is divided into two parts, (1) the Proper of the season and (2) the Proper of the saints. The Epistles for the seasons are rather rigidly arranged: from Easter until Whitmonday the readings come from the Acts of the Apostles, while from Whitmonday until Holy Saturday they are taken from St. Paul's Epistles. These readings are set out in five periods of eight seasons and correspond with the eight tones of the Byzantine music tradition. (Day, Peter. The Liturgical Dictionary of Eastern Christianity. Wellwood, 1993. P. 20-21). The book forms part of the the collection of old prints and special collections of UCU Library. The binding is original, restored (wooden base and leather). Purchased in 1689 for St. George's Church [s. l.]. The book contains marginal notes in black ink. Zapasko I͡A., Isai͡evych, I͡A.
