Description
  • Horologion – liturgical book resembling a Western breviary; it contains the Ordinary, or fixed parts, of the Office with the Proper hymns of the Liturgy; thus it includes the Midnight Office, Matins, the Hours, the typika, Vespers, and Compline as well as the blessings before and after meals. The choir's part is given in full, omitting those parts reserved for the priest and deacon. The book also contains the ordo (acolouthia), the calendar, the apolytikion, and the kontakiona (collect hymn) for each day as well as some Canons. In the Slavonic edition, however, the list of feasts and saints together with assorted Canons and occasional services found in the Greek edition may be omitted. Also found as an appendix to the book is the paschalion, which calculates the dates for future Easters and other movable feasts. (Day, Peter. The Liturgical Dictionary of Eastern Christianity. Wellwood, 1993. P. 122). The book forms part of the collection of old prints and special collections of UCU Library. The book is in old hardcover (leather, wood base, hand-carved image of a cross). The title page and some unnumbered leaves at the beginning are missing. The book contains marginal notes in black ink, with a blue oil pen. The book contains handwritten fragments of text pasted over damaged or lost printed text. Printed in red and black ink. Zapasko I͡A., Isai͡evych, I͡A.
