Description
  • Triodion (Postnaya Triod, Pisna Triod, Lenten Triodion) – one of a set of choir books originally produced by the Studites, but Philotheos, patriarch of Constantinople (1354-1355 and 1361-1375), insisted on the inclusion of an Office for St. Gregory Palamas, archibishop of Thessalonica and a vigorous opponent of Catholicism, whose commemoration is kept by the Orthodox on the second Sunday of Lent. The book contains the variable parts of the services from the tenth Sunday before Easter (the Sunday of the Publican and Pharisee) until Holy Saturday, after which the Pentekostarion follows. The name derives from there being three odes in the Canon instead of the customary nine. (Day, Peter. The Liturgical Dictionary of Eastern Christianity. Wellwood, 1993. P. 292). The book forms part of the collection of old prints and special collections of UCU Library. Book without cover, title page missing, partially restored. The lost printed text is replaced by a handwritten one. The book lacks unnumbered pages at the beginning. The book contains marginal inscriptions in black ink and graphite pencil. Marginal inscription: "T͡Si͡u knyhu dіstav i͡a 25.І.1971 r. v s. Streptovі" (Eng.: "I got this book on January 25, 1971 in the village of Streptiv [Lviv oblast, Ukraine]"). At the end of the 17th century, the book belonged to the church of Kosma and Demian in the village of Streptiv, Lviv oblast, Ukraine. Printed in 2 colors (black, red). Zapasko I͡A., Isai͡evych, I͡A.
