Description
  • Menaion (also called Mineya) – one of the twelve volumes that make up the collection called the Menaia, each volume of which corresponds to a month of the Church Year, which commences on September 1, "The Day of the Indiction." This book contains the variable parts of the Divine Office for the immovable feasts and special hymns and prayers for each of the feasts being commemorated. Under each date, there are also comments about the life of the particular saint being commemorated as well as a note about any rubrics peculiar to that day. The historical comments are found between the sixth and seventh odes, which are found in the text of the Of-fice, or *Acolouthia. An appendix usually contains the rite to be observed for those saints that have no Proper Office. (Day, Peter. The Liturgical Dictionary of Eastern Christianity.Wellwood, 1993. P. 190) The book forms part of the collection of old prints and special collections of UCU Library. The book is in a new hardcover. The book is restored. The lost printed text has been replaced by handwritten text. The book contains marginal inscriptions in black ink. The title page and other pages of the book are missing. Printed in 2 colors (black, red), headpieces.
